The Way Through

The Way Through

Often on a trail, I’ll come along two trees, one on either side, like a passageway. I usually pause, even if only to make an image, and think about where I’ve been before considering where I’m going. The two tree friends here prompted me to think about qualities of courage and endurance. I wondered, if I made a decision while on one side of these two trees, what might happen once I’d passed between them. And I hope, every time you meditate on this scene, that you’ll do the same. Consider where you’ve been. Think about where you want to go. And make a decision, each time, to pass through intentionally to the other side. (Mark O. Hatfield Wilderness)
