Wahtum Lake

Hermann Hesse wrote, “When we have learned how to listen to trees, then the brevity and the quickness and the childlike hastiness of our thoughts achieve an incomparable joy.” Here at Wahtum Lake, there was a heavy blanket of fog covering the water and obscuring all but the closest stand of trees. So we waited, and we listened. We felt the soft touch of low clouds all around. And I learned what Hesse meant about “incomparable joy.” (Wahtum Lake)
